I think we're going to try to get an explanation from Hematology while we're in the hospital next week. I've just been told that the issue had to do with an "M" factor, that one unit of the blood we donated was positive and the other was negative, and that the "not having blood" for the surgery really meant they didn't have TWO units of blood, which is strange given that the Red Cross said the order was only for one unit to begin with. But in any case they have identified two units, including one of ours (no word on whether it was Seth's or mine, not that it matters). And the secondhand information also tells us that Zyle's could change to the other state at some time (negative or positive).
Confused? So am I. While we're in the building with people who understand these things next week, I hope to get a face-to-face explanation.
Regardless, they now have the blood available and surgery is on track for Monday. We don't have to go back for any more pre-op.
I'm reminded that Chemistry was the only thing I made a B in in high school.
