I think the thing that worries me the most is losing his trust. He trusts me, and I'm about to let some strangers open him up.

Disconnect
I just posted this to a dance friend on FB: There is this bizarre disconnect as we plan for this surgery, and see a happy and inquisitive Zyle toddling around, learning about everything, oblivious to the impending changes. It makes it hard to believe we have embarked upon this life-altering course of action. Despite the blood donation, the hospital visits, and all the planning, Zyle is acting normally. He doesn't know the freight train about to strike his life. He is quite happy.

If it makes you feel any better, I had eye surgery when I was about his age and I don't remember a single thing about it. And I don't have any deep-seated resentments of my parents as an adult either. :)
ReplyDeleteSeth, it's probably normal to have last-minute doubts about surgeries of this nature, especially when the patient is so precious and young, but you are making the right decision. Just keep thinking of those high success rate statistics and hang in there. I am sorry you have to go through this; it sounds very scary. But, as the cliche goes, this too shall pass. Lots of love! -- Mike
