Why parents should meet with surgeons the same day

So they don't get on the wrong track.

I'd been thinking how do I arrange my life and my plans around a multiple-month hospital stay plus recovery time involving head wounds, when lo and behold I ran across a site at a craniofacial surgery center in which the doc says the patient may feel well enough to go home the next day but he recommends staying 48 hours. WHOA! Okay, not our surgeon, but definitely feels like a huge relief anyway. This could be a much faster recovery period than I thought.

Also finding places saying there's a low infection rate post surgery and good outcomes expected. And one talked about older children who have the surgery say they don't feel pain, which tells me that children older than Zyle DO get this done successfully!

I'm feeling quite relieved.

  4. Sending all of my best wishes! We've had some of the same frustrations - doctors who just aren't paying attention, the long slow wait to get appointments, etc. This is why we ended up paying out of pocket for Natalie's head treatment. And M still feels guilty - as though she should have pushed harder earlier - because we DID notice.

M has found it very helpful to join a couple of online plagio groups. I'm not sure if there are any for craniosyntosis specifically - but it might be worth a look.
